The project will deal with the problem of the extraction, preservation, nutritional and sensory analysis of the argan oil, (produced by the Argania spinosa, endemic of the Maghreb), a dietetic oil which has ipocolesterolemic proprieties, suggested for patients who are at risk of arteriosclerosis and searched for by the cosmetic industry for its beneficial substances used in the treatments of the youth acne.
The attention will be focused on the technological and know-how transfer for the safeguard of the nutritional quality of this product, for the improvement of its hygienic-sanitary aspects.
MAC-Oils project could give a new impulse from the socio-economical and cultural point of view to the valorization of the argan plant; that’s why the valorization of the argan oil and of its by-products, in the pharmacology and cosmetology, could increase the interest of the Moroccan populations who are at the risk of survival; thanks to this new awareness, these populations could start safeguarding the cultivation of the Argania spinosa, by promoting, on the one hand, the development of the rural integrated forest and the protection of the biodiversity, and, on the other hand, the development of the rural economy, as incentive at the creation of new women cooperatives.
These latter, especially in Morocco, play an important role in the domestic economy and have an important weight in the economical growth. For these reasons, it is foreseen the participation in the project of the Moroccan cooperative Targanine, that is the most famous women cooperative producing the argan oil. quality and, in case, of its characterization of typicalness.
